"Let food be thy medicine.."

When you see a basket of fresh fruit or a colorful array of garden vegetables, you feel a sense of joy and contentment. Subconsciously your body knows that these things fuel it and can give it pleasure and sustenance. When I refer to your mind I am specifically talking about your brain functions. Your brain is the 24/7 non-stop director of all the traffic that brings you life. Your body and its functions, but, also all of your thoughts, many of your feelings, and your learning capacity. This fuel that your body needs is qualitative. The better food or fuel you eat, the better the brain and body function. In fact, conversely, if you are eating a low nutrient and high carb diet, your body will weaken, but so will your mind, diminishing the ability to think and feel clearly, to learn to be objective, to be sympathetic and empathetic to others. Your brain can actually be damaged if you do not eat a healthy diet. That is how important the chemical make-up of our food is to our brain and how we think!

I’m sure you’ve had those moments, “Well, this one little bite won’t hurt” and seemingly it won’t, but when there is that moment followed by another, and another, and then yet another, your mind starts to feel the effects.

 

Cleaning up your diet can be easy, or it can be tough. It takes discipline and creativity. You will have to think in new ways, experiment, get out of your comfort zone. But each little step, can lead to a lasting behavior if taken sequentially and repeated. This pace is up to you, and each week there will be check ins- just to see how it’s going and modify if needed. Finding the right pace, the right foods that fuel you to lasting vitality. Results may take time, but the rewards can be game changers!
